The Embryology and Andrology Laboratories

Under the direction of Marius Meintjes, PhD, HCLD, the embryology and andrology team is committed to maximizing the efficiency, success rates, and safety of patient treatments. Our laboratory is CLIA certified and being a newly established laboratory, will undergo the process of being accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

The Endocrine, Andrology, and Embryology Laboratories at Advanced Fertility Care were designed to provide an extremely high-tech and efficient setting for infertility treatments to take place. Our laboratories are equipped with the most state-of-the-art equipment including microscopes, micromanipulators, and incubation systems which are used to regulate vital conditions such as temperature, humidity, and air quality for the embryos. In addition, particle contaminants are kept from entering crucial laboratory work areas through airways and doors by positive pressure air flow and advanced HEPA filtration units throughout the laboratory and surgical suites.

Gamete and Embryo Security & Identity

We have installed an advanced computer controlled Access Entry system which will allow only authorized laboratory personnel and Dr. Zoneraich access to the Embryology and andrology laboratory and storage tanks. Minimizing access is only one of the multiple steps we use to assure the security of our embryos and sperm. Detailed paperwork and documentation as well as redundancy in the safety check system involving human specimens ensure a completely secure laboratory environment.

Procedure Witnessing

In order to further maintain the strictest of security, an accompanying embryologist or clinical staff member will witness and document all crucial steps in the IVF process. These steps include egg retrieval, insemination or ICSI, and embryo transfer. After semen specimen collection, our staff will check the ID of the male patient providing the specimen and have that person verify certain identification details in verification of the label on the sample cup. The identity of the female patient is verified and witnessed at egg retrieval by the embryologist through personal introduction and checking the patient name band. Prior to the procedure, the embryologist on record will personally review all paperwork and culture dishes. Lastly, prior to embryo transfer, patient identity will once again be verbally verified by Dr. Zoneraich, the embryologist, and the patient in the transfer procedure room.
